Calling at Kusadasi only once? Ephesus by private car, ship by ship

22 cruise ships visit Kusadasi just once in the next 12 months. What fits on each ship's day: Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary, Artemis and Sirince.

If your ship comes to Kusadasi only once this year, there is no “next time” to save anything for. That changes the question. It is not “what is the minimum we can see?” but “how much of the Ephesus area fits into this one day, without risking the ship?”

This guide covers the 22 ships that, according to the published schedule (checked in October 2026), call at Kusadasi a single time between October 2026 and October 2027. Ships with two or more calls have their own day plans in our guides.

The rule we plan with

Work backwards from the ship, not forwards from the gangway. We plan to have you back at the port at least 60 minutes before the published departure time. Your all-aboard time is usually earlier than that, so check it in the ship’s app or daily programme and give it to us when you book.

Then add up the stops. These are planning values, not promises; traffic and queues vary:

  • Ephesus alone: roughly 3.5 hours door to door from the port, including about 2 to 2.5 hours on site.
  • Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis: roughly 4 to 4.5 hours. The temple is a short photo stop at the edge of Selcuk.
  • Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary: roughly 4.5 to 5 hours, because of the winding road up Nightingale Mountain.
  • Ephesus, Mary’s House and Artemis: about 5.5 hours.
  • All four, with Sirince: about 7 to 7.5 hours. The hill village needs an hour or more on foot.

Autumn 2026: long days, mild weather

Every autumn call with published times gives at least nine hours in port, so the full circuit is realistic. October and early November are a good time to walk Ephesus: the stone is no longer radiating summer heat, but the days are shorter and opening hours change with the season, so check them before you go.

A typical order for a 09:00–18:00 day, such as Marella Voyager or Island Princess:

  1. 09:30 leave the port exit with your driver.
  2. 10:00–12:15 Ephesus, upper gate to lower gate, so most of the walk is downhill.
  3. 12:35–13:20 House of the Virgin Mary, in the shade of the trees.
  4. 13:40–14:00 Temple of Artemis, a quick stop for the lone column and the view of Ayasuluk Hill.
  5. 14:20–15:20 Sirince: lunch, a walk through the lanes, perhaps a wine tasting.
  6. about 16:00 back at the port, more than an hour before departure.

With a late departure (Seabourn Quest, Azamara Quest, Volendam) you can slow everything down, start later, or sit longer over lunch in Sirince. With Carnival Legend’s 07:00 arrival, start early and you may reach Ephesus before the main morning wave.

Shared days matter as well. Europa shares 18 October with two other ships, and Carnival Legend and Seven Seas Grandeur also have two companions in port. On those days, ask us to visit Mary’s House or Artemis first and reach Ephesus a little later.

Spring and summer 2027: no times yet

For the eleven calls from April to October 2027, no arrival or departure times have been announced. Plan with scenarios and decide once your cruise line confirms the hours:

  • If your ship stays under 6 hours: Ephesus, and at most a short stop at the Temple of Artemis. Sirince does not fit.
  • 6 to 7 hours: Ephesus plus one of the House of the Virgin Mary or the Temple of Artemis.
  • 7 to 8.5 hours: Ephesus, Mary’s House and Artemis. Leave Sirince for another trip.
  • 9 hours or more: all four places.

May and June days can already be hot in Ephesus, where there is very little shade; by late June it often feels like full summer. Bring water, a hat and sun cream, and wear shoes with grip, as the marble paving is smooth. Oceania Vista’s day, 1 June 2027, currently lists three other ships in port, and Carnival Miracle’s, 2 October 2027, lists three as well. On busy days an early start, or a reversed order, keeps you away from the largest groups.

Booking the day

Book a Kusadasi–Ephesus private transfer: your driver meets you at the cruise port exit, takes you to Ephesus, waits while you visit and brings you back to the port. The car is only for your group, up to 8 passengers per vehicle. Tell us your ship, the date, your all-aboard time and which extra stops you want (House of the Virgin Mary, Temple of Artemis, Sirince), and we confirm the plan with you before the day.

Entrance tickets are not included in the transfer, and Ephesus and the Terrace Houses each need their own ticket, so buy both in advance on our museum tickets page before your trip. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, and you can pay in cash or by card.

If you are still comparing ways to get there, our overview of Kusadasi port to Ephesus lists all the options.

Plan it with the current schedule

Good to know: the Kusadasi–Ephesus private transfer covers Ephesus. Stops at the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis and Sirince are not included and cost extra; tell us which ones you want when you book and we will confirm the plan and the cost.

The ship times in this guide are as published in October 2026 and can change. The ship pages are updated every morning.
