Norwegian Viva’s Kusadasi season is short and squarely in summer. The published schedule (checked in October 2026) shows seven calls between Sunday 20 June and Monday 6 September 2027. Five of them fall in June, July and August, and the remaining two in the first week of September. Arrival and departure times have not been announced yet.
There is one curious detail in the dates. The calls tend to come in pairs a few days apart: 20 and 24 June, 15 and 19 August, 3 and 6 September. Friday 9 July stands alone. So when you look up your own date, check whether a second Viva call falls a few days before or after it; the crowd picture can differ between the two.
Calmer than many summer ships
For a summer schedule, Viva’s port days are relatively light:
- Two calls with no other ship listed: Fri 9 July and Sun 15 August.
- Two calls with one other ship: 24 June (Wind Surf) and 19 August (Celebrity Ascent).
- Three busier days with three ships in port: 20 June (with Celestyal Journey and Oceania Nautica-Aurelia), 3 September (with Oosterdam and Enchanted Princess) and 6 September (with MSC Divina and Carnival Sunshine).
On the quieter dates you can keep a straightforward order, Ephesus first. On the three busier ones, a small change of order can make the walk through the ruins noticeably more pleasant.
If your ship stays…
Plan with the window from arrival to departure, and keep 60 minutes in hand before departure. Check the all-aboard time in the daily programme, which is normally earlier.
…about 6 hours: Ephesus plus the Temple of Artemis on the way back. Or swap Artemis for the House of the Virgin Mary if the mountain setting appeals more. One extra, not two.
…about 7.5 hours: Ephesus, Mary’s House and Artemis together. Sirince would not fit safely.
…12 hours or more: all four, at an easy pace, with room for a proper break and for keeping Ephesus out of the midday sun.
A short-call example (hypothetical times: 08:00 to 14:00)
Clock times here are invented to show how a 6-hour call can work. Adjust them to your real schedule.
- 08:20 Meet your driver at the cruise port exit.
- 08:50 to 11:05 Ephesus. Ask to be dropped at the upper gate and picked up at the lower one.
- 11:25 to 11:45 Temple of Artemis.
- 12:20 Back at the port, over an hour and a half before a 14:00 departure.
That cushion is intentional. On a short call, a slow exit from the port or an extra twenty minutes in front of the Library of Celsus should never put the ship at risk.
Choosing between the extras
House of the Virgin Mary. Above Ephesus on Nightingale Mountain, among trees, so usually cooler than the ruins below. A place of prayer for many Christians, also visited by Muslims. Short path from the car park.
Temple of Artemis. Quick and close to the road back to Kusadasi. A single re-erected column stands where one of the Seven Wonders rose; set your expectations accordingly.
Sirince. A hillside village with old houses, a restored church and wine tasting shops. Best kept for a long call, as the round trip from Selcuk and the visit take well over an hour.
Ephesus itself needs little selling: Curetes Street, the Temple of Hadrian, the Odeon, the old latrines and the Great Theatre. Plan two hours at least, more with the Terrace Houses.
Summer sun on a Viva call
Every Viva call is a warm-weather call. In July and August temperatures at midday are often well above 30 °C, and Ephesus has very little shade. Go early, carry more water than you think you need and protect your head. On the two solo days, 9 July and 15 August, the crowd is less of an issue, so you could reasonably start a little later if you prefer a slower morning.
Book your Ephesus car
