If you are sailing on Rhapsody of the Seas in 2027, your Kusadasi day is almost certainly a Sunday or a Monday. The published schedule (checked in October 2026) lists 14 calls from 11 May to 19 September: seven on Sundays, six on Mondays and a single Tuesday. Times for these calls have not been announced yet, so this guide works with possible lengths of stay and shows how to shape a private-car day to Ephesus around them.
Sundays with Celestyal Journey, Mondays with a mix
The Sunday calls have a familiar companion. Celestyal Journey is listed on six of the seven Sundays (16 May, 6 June, 27 June, 18 July, 8 August and 19 September). The one Sunday without it, 29 August, has no other ship listed at all.
The Mondays vary more. On 21 June Rhapsody is alone; on other Mondays you may find Azura, MSC Divina, Emerald Raiya or Star Legend beside you. Four of the six Mondays are three-ship days, among them 2 August (with MSC Divina and Sun Princess) and 23 August (with MSC Divina and Emerald Raiya).
Overall, 12 of the 14 calls share the port, but only five reach three or more ships. That is moderate by Kusadasi summer standards. On a two-ship Sunday, a simple early start is usually enough; on the five busier days, changing the order of stops helps more.
What your hours allow
These are planning values, door to door, with 60 minutes kept free before departure. The all-aboard time printed in the ship’s daily programme comes first, so check it.
- Around 5 hours: stay focused. Ephesus, and perhaps 15 to 20 minutes at the Temple of Artemis on the way back.
- Around 6.5 hours: Ephesus with the House of the Virgin Mary is the more rewarding pairing for most visitors, because the mountain setting gives the day a second mood.
- Around 9 hours: all four places, Sirince included, fit at a steady pace.
If a short call is what you get, do not squeeze in Sirince. The drive up the hill and the walk through its lanes need more than an hour on their own.
A later-start example (hypothetical times: 10:00 to 19:00)
Suppose your ship arrives mid-morning and leaves in the evening. This is an invented window to show the logic, not the ship’s schedule.
- 10:20 Meet your driver at the cruise port exit.
- 11:00 to 11:45 House of the Virgin Mary, cooler under the trees while the sun climbs.
- 12:05 to 14:20 Ephesus from the upper gate, finishing at the lower gate.
- 14:35 to 14:55 Temple of Artemis.
- 15:15 to 16:30 Sirince, after the busiest midday hours in the village lanes.
- 17:10 Back at the port, close to two hours before a 19:00 departure.
The drawback of a late start is clear: you walk Ephesus in the hottest part of the day. If your real window starts early, put Ephesus first instead.
Four places, four kinds of visit
Ephesus is the long walk: roughly 1.5 to 2 km of marble and stone, from the upper gate past the Temple of Hadrian and the Library of Celsus to the Great Theatre and Harbour Street.
House of the Virgin Mary is the quiet stop. Modest clothing is appreciated inside, and three popes, Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, have visited.
Temple of Artemis is the short one. A single column marks where one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World once stood, in a field that is often marshy.
Sirince is the browsing stop: wine tasting shops, olive oil, soap and steep stone lanes.
Summer comfort on a Sunday or Monday call
Nine of Rhapsody’s calls fall in June, July or August. In those weeks the middle of the day can be well above 30 °C, and the ruins offer very little shade. A hat, sun cream and a refillable bottle are the minimum; good shoes matter as much, because polished marble can be slippery. The May and September calls are kinder for walking, and the solo days, 21 June and 29 August, are your best chance of a less crowded Ephesus.
Book your private car
Reserve the Kusadasi–Ephesus private transfer for your Sunday or Monday. Your driver waits at the cruise port exit, stays with the car during your visits and drives you back to the ship. Up to 8 people share one vehicle. Tell us which extra stops you would like when you book, and we confirm the plan with you beforehand. Entrance tickets are not included. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before.
Tickets are not included; buy Ephesus and Terrace Houses tickets in advance on our museum tickets page. Planning the visit? See our Ephesus walking guide and when to visit Ephesus.
Plan it with the current schedule
Good to know: the Kusadasi–Ephesus private transfer covers Ephesus. Stops at the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis and Sirince are not included and cost extra; tell us which ones you want when you book and we will confirm the plan and the cost.
