If you are sailing on Silver Nova next year, the most likely weather for your Ephesus day is hot. The published schedule (checked in October 2026) lists 13 Kusadasi calls between October 2026 and September 2027, and seven of them fall in June, July or August. That shapes the plan more than anything else: when you visit Ephesus matters as much as what you add to it.
Silver Nova’s year in Kusadasi
- October 2026: three calls, on Friday 9, Friday 16 and Wednesday 28 October. All three show 08:00 to 23:00.
- May to September 2027: ten more calls, from Thursday 20 May to Friday 17 September. Times for these have not been announced yet.
- Fridays come up most often: five of the 13 calls.
- Company in port: 11 calls share the day with at least one other ship, and 8 are days with three or more ships. Celestyal Discovery is the most frequent neighbour, listed three times.
- Quiet exceptions: on Friday 25 June and Thursday 5 August 2027 no other ship is listed.
As always, times can change, and your ship’s daily programme has the real all-aboard time.
The heat question
July and August are often well above 30 °C at midday, and Ephesus offers very little shade along its roughly 1.5 to 2 km of marble and stone. On a midsummer call, think of the day in two halves: the open-air ruins in the cooler part of the morning, and the shaded or indoor parts later.
A private car makes that possible because you choose the order. Some ways to use it:
- Go to Ephesus as early as the port and the opening hours allow, and finish the main street before the strongest sun.
- Use the Terrace Houses, which are covered, as the last part of your Ephesus visit.
- Put the House of the Virgin Mary after Ephesus: it lies higher, under trees, and often feels cooler.
- Keep the Temple of Artemis short. It is an open field with a single column; fifteen minutes is enough in July.
Planning before the times are announced
Until the 2027 windows are published, plan by scenario.
If your summer call is as long as the October ones (around 15 hours): all four stops fit easily. You could even leave Ephesus for later in the day, once the morning crowds and heat ease, if the opening hours on your date allow it.
If your ship stays about 8 hours: do Ephesus, Mary’s House and the Temple of Artemis, roughly 5.5 hours door to door. Leave Sirince out.
If your ship stays about 6 hours: Ephesus plus one short extra. Mary’s House is the cooler choice in summer; the Temple of Artemis is the quicker one.
In every case, plan to be back at the port at least 60 minutes before departure.
A sample summer morning
This is a hypothetical day using the 08:00-23:00 window seen in October:
- 08:30 - meet your driver at the cruise port exit.
- 09:00 to 11:30 - Ephesus, upper gate down to lower gate, ending with the Terrace Houses.
- 11:50 to 12:35 - House of the Virgin Mary, in the shade of the trees.
- 13:00 - Temple of Artemis, a brief photo stop.
- 13:30 to 15:00 - Sirince. Midday is its busiest time; if you prefer quieter lanes, linger at Mary’s House and arrive a little later.
- About 15:40 - back at the port.
What to know about each place in summer
Ephesus. Highlights include Curetes Street, the Library of Celsus facade and the Great Theatre, one of the largest of the ancient world. Bring water, a hat and sun cream.
House of the Virgin Mary. A modest stone house where silence is kept. There are water taps outside, useful on a hot day.
Temple of Artemis. From the field you can see Ayasuluk Hill with the Basilica of St John and the Isa Bey Mosque.
Sirince. Old stone and timber houses on steep cobbled lanes, with olive oil, soaps and fruit wines. Check your ship’s rules before carrying wine back on board.
