If you like your ruins quiet, Viking Mira’s timing is on your side. The published schedule (checked in October 2026) shows nine Kusadasi calls between 7 December 2026 and 13 March 2027, and on eight of them no other ship is listed in port. The single exception is Saturday 13 March 2027, when Celestyal Discovery is also in.
Arrival and departure times have not been announced yet for any of these calls, so the plans below are built on assumed lengths of stay.
Mira’s winter pattern
The calls come in three short runs, with nothing in February:
- December 2026: Monday 7 and Friday 11 December.
- January 2027: Monday 4, Sunday 10, Saturday 16 and Friday 22 January, six days apart.
- March 2027: Monday 1, Sunday 7 and Saturday 13 March, again six days apart.
Monday is the most common day, with three calls. Every date sits in the cool, short-day part of the year; entrance tickets are not included, so buy Ephesus and Terrace Houses tickets in advance on our museum tickets page.
What an empty port changes
With no other ships, you do not need tricks to dodge the morning rush at the Ephesus gates. The day becomes simpler: go to Ephesus first, while the light is good, and spend the time you save on lingering rather than on reshuffling. That makes the Terrace Houses, the roofed excavation of Roman homes with wall paintings and mosaics, a natural addition. It takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes more and has its own ticket.
The real limits on a Mira call are the length of the stay, the weather and closing times.
Three ways the day could go
A short call, around 6 hours. Ephesus plus a photo stop at the Temple of Artemis. That is the honest maximum; the House of the Virgin Mary and Sirince do not fit.
A middle-length call, around 8 hours. Add the mountain: Mary’s House goes in after Ephesus, the column of Artemis on the way back. Sirince stays off the list.
A long call, 12 hours or more. All four places at an easy pace, with the Terrace Houses too. You could even start later and let the morning warm up a little.
In all three, the last hour before departure belongs to the ship, not the sights. And since the all-aboard time usually comes before departure, read it in the daily programme.
Worked example: a short Mira call (hypothetical 08:00 to 14:00)
Here is what a tight six-hour stay would look like. The hours are invented for illustration:
- 08:30 Off the ship and through the port; your driver is at the cruise port exit.
- 09:00 Ephesus from the upper gate. Curetes Street, the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre: plan roughly 2 to 2.5 hours. No Terrace Houses on this schedule.
- 11:30 The car collects you at the lower gate and drives to the Temple of Artemis for a 15 to 20 minute stop.
- about 12:50 Back at the port, just over an hour before a 14:00 departure.
That margin is the minimum, not a cushion. If the ship’s programme shows an earlier all-aboard time, drop the Temple of Artemis rather than squeeze it in.
Should you add Sirince?
Only on a long call and a dry day. Sirince is a hillside village above Selcuk, a Greek village until the population exchange of the 1920s, with the restored Church of St John the Baptist. Its narrow, steep cobbled lanes are slippery when wet. The village is known for fruit wines; remember that your cruise line has its own rules about bringing alcohol on board.
Short notes on the other stops
Ephesus. Two entrances, upper (south) and lower (north). With a private car you can be dropped at one and collected at the other, so the walk runs downhill. In winter the marble paving can be slick.
House of the Virgin Mary. Small, quiet, and set among trees higher up the mountain. Christians venerate it as the place where Mary is believed to have spent her last years, and Muslim visitors come as well. In January expect it to feel colder than the ruins.
Temple of Artemis. Allow 15 to 20 minutes. In winter the low ground around the lone column is often soggy, so admire it from the edge.
Booking the car for your Mira call
Book the Kusadasi–Ephesus private transfer for your date. A driver meets you at the cruise port exit, waits during the visits and drives you back to the ship, in a car for your group only (up to 8 passengers). Tell us the stops you want when you book, or later on WhatsApp, and we confirm the plan with you before the day. Entrance tickets are not included. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before; cash or card accepted.
